5x5 Acariqua-New York began as an artistic exchange when five artists
from New York traveled in 2004 to Venezuela where they exhibited at the
Museo de arte Acariqua-Araure with five artists living and working in
the state of Portuguesa, Venezuela. While in Portuguesa the artists
met and began a critical dialogue on contemporary art over a period of
21 days. In 2006, a reciprocal exchange took place when those five
Venezuelan artists traveled to New York and all ten artists exhibited
together at the Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center. This exhibition
continues to travel throughout the US and Latin America furthering the
artistic culture exchange of all artists.
